Over the past two decades I've worked with publishers, businesses, advertising agencies and private clients around the world, creating everything from bestselling how-to-draw books to manga-inspired advertising campaigns, mascot designs, colouring books and licensed promotional artwork.

Below is a selection of commercial illustration projects and creative commissions. Each case study explores the client's brief, my creative process, the challenges involved and the finished artwork.

Unicorns & Mystical Creatures: Adult Manga Colouring Book

This professionally published adult colouring book combines fantasy creatures with manga-inspired artwork to create over 60 detailed illustrations designed for colouring enthusiasts. Featuring unicorns, dragons, mermaids and other magical creatures, the project also includes glow-in-the-dark elements, making it a unique addition to the growing adult colouring book market.

G7 Manga Superheroes

In 2016 I was commissioned by Save the Children to create promotional artwork for its healthcare campaign during the G7 Summit in Japan. By transforming G7 world leaders into manga-inspired superheroes, the campaign combined illustration with political awareness to create striking promotional visuals. The artwork was later displayed as life-sized cardboard cut-outs and received international media attention.

Artist’s guide to Drawing Manga

During 2015-2016 I wrote and illustrated The Artist's Guide to Drawing Manga, a comprehensive tutorial book packed with step-by-step lessons covering anatomy, expressions, poses, clothing, perspective and character design. Building on techniques introduced in Digital Manga, the book was created to help beginners and intermediate artists develop stronger drawing skills through practical, easy-to-follow exercises and professional advice.

B.Inked

Alongside my illustration work, I work professionally as a tattoo artist, specialising in manga, comic book and illustrative tattoo designs. This project showcases a selection of custom tattoos created for clients, demonstrating how my digital illustration techniques translate into permanent artwork. From anime-inspired pieces to original character designs, every tattoo is individually planned to suit the wearer.

Tennis Stars

I designed the original manga-inspired character roster for Tennis Stars, one of the Game Boy Advance's earliest tennis games. After presenting multiple visual styles, the developers selected a fun chibi-inspired direction. From detailed character briefs through to the final illustrations, the project combined game design with expressive manga character creation.

Step by Step Manga

Following the success of The Art of Drawing Manga, I illustrated Step-by-Step Manga for Scholastic and Arcturus Publishing. Although shorter in length, the book featured a much higher number of illustrations, focusing on creating individual manga characters through structured drawing tutorials. The project expanded my experience producing educational art books for younger readers.

The Art of Drawing Manga

Commissioned by Arcturus Publishing for Barnes & Noble, The Art of Drawing Manga became my first major instructional drawing book. The 144-page publication was produced under a demanding deadline and covers everything from facial features and anatomy to action poses, composition and professional manga illustration techniques.

Digital Manga

Created during 2013-2014, Digital Manga was written to answer one question I was constantly asked: "How do you colour your artwork?" The book explores my complete Photoshop workflow, covering colouring, lighting, rendering, special effects and professional digital painting techniques developed over more than a decade of creating manga-inspired artwork.

Tigertailz

Welsh glam metal band Tigertailz commissioned me to redesign their long-standing mascot, Klint, with a fresh manga-inspired look. The brief called for a cute yet energetic character that retained the band's identity while appealing to modern audiences. The finished mascot was created for the band's Daggerz EP and promotional material.
